Long before the name became a knowing nod to a data type buried in code, Mixed Type was just a kid in Estonia with an ear pressed to the radio. Late-night broadcasts from Radio Luxembourg carried in Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder — clipped machine rhythms, arpeggios that felt built rather than played — and something clicked early.

That pull toward the electronic didn't rule out guitars entirely. In his school years he played electric guitar in a punk band, chasing a rawer, louder energy before circling back to the synthetic sounds that had hooked him first. It's the two instincts — the discipline of a machine groove and the rawness of a band playing loud and fast — that still sit somewhere underneath what he makes now.

The 80s and 90s cemented it. As electronic music fractured into house's many subgenres through that era, it took root deep enough to shape everything that followed. Today that's mainly Deep and Progressive House — his favorites both in the studio and behind the decks — though his live sets range further than that on the night: a breakbeat set at an Ait season finale sits in his catalogue right alongside the deep, patient house mixes.

That catalogue tells the story better than any press clipping. New Year's Eve at Cafe da Poncha, house sets at Ait The Barnbar, at DJ Silk-In's summer party. A guest mix for Raadio 2's R2 Klubi, and another set recorded for PCR Radio. Small rooms, radio slots, and a NYE residency that keeps getting renewed — the kind of steady track record of a DJ journey.

In the studio and on the road, the setup reflects the same care: Allen & Heath for mixing, Sennheiser on the ears, Audient in the signal chain, Ableton and Traktor to build and deliver the sets. Tools chosen less for flash than for the precision the music itself demands.
